Gli Stati Uniti avrebbero preso atto che l’Iran non intende cedere, neppure di fronte a una situazione economica estremamente difficile, e starebbero valutando un’azione militare con il coinvolgimento di alcuni Paesi arabi. Trump avrebbe bisogno di una vittoria simbolica da presentare all’opinione pubblica americana: tra le ipotesi circola anche quella della conquista di un’isola iraniana. Parallelamente, secondo questa lettura, alcuni governi europei starebbero offrendo un sostegno discreto a operazioni che rischiano di alimentare ulteriormente l’escalation. Intanto, in Europa, l’aumento dei prezzi, del costo dei carburanti e la crisi di numerose attività economiche alimentano il malcontento. La guerra rischia così di diventare, per alcuni governi, uno strumento per spostare l’attenzione dalle proprie difficoltà interne. In questo quadro, anche il governo italiano è chiamato ad assumersi le proprie responsabilità sulle scelte compiute in politica estera e sulle conseguenze delle proprie alleanze.
